  • Personnel Exchange Program (Karisa and Verica)

Tora'aro'nuruodo sat in the waiting room of the Imperial Recruitment Office. Brask'ari'sabosen was with him, the pair of Chiss having been accepted to serve as representatives of their houses in the Pesonnel Exchange Program which was designed to gain exposure to other military units in the Known Regions of space. The Sovereign Galactic Empire was the logical choice for the Chiss, as their military was strong, and very formal, much like what the Chiss were already used to. There would be culture shock for sure, but the similarities would at least lessen the shock for the couple.

The pair was indeed a couple, but this would not be public knowledge. Only recently had the pair begun a courtship as their fathers had come to a mutual agreement regarding an arranged marriage of the two in order to unite the houses. Even if the two did not want the marriage the matter had been decided, and it was their duty to oblidge the will of their fathers. The matter of courting according to the custom of their people while serving the Empire was going to be tricky, but the pair was committed to seeing it through, though nervous about it.

They had rehearsed their basic the enitre way to the office. The couple even started using core names in order to get used to answering to them on a regular basis. Aaron was certain the time would come when they would use given names privately in order to feel some connection to their culture, if they weren't separated. The young Chiss was hoping that would not be the case.

Dressed in his uniform, Aaron waited. His demeanor was clam, rigid, stoic, just as a good Chiss officer should be. The wait would be what it was, but at least he had good company, even if there was six inches between them at all times.

Finishing up several forms to get the last recruit on his way to the MEPS station, Verica rose and carried the clipboard back toward the front. Being a professional officer, the lieutenant had already been a part of the Imperial navy for some time now and extremely proud of what she had accomplished. Passing other recruits going through their own interviews, tucked away in a host of cubicles to either side of her, she finally made it to the front desk where the gruff sergeant, a career Imperial marine, turned to her. Setting the board on the desk's corner, hazel eyes took in the pair of Chiss standing almost at attention and seemed to be waiting for something.

Verica's gaze then turned to the stocky soldier in pressed uniform, "Who's next?"

He motioned to the handsome, blue skinned Chiss and his companion, then rose. "You two, go with Lieutenant Verica here. She'll take care of your recruitment," his voice belted, habitual being a career marine and extremely proud of his profession and dedication to the empress.

Verica wanted to grin at the sight of several recruits filling out their forms, seated in the lobby beyond who jumped at the sound of the voice. Their nerves no doubt frayed with the big decision they were making already, many would come to know that sound while in Basic Training and get used to it. And he didn't even yell, she mused.

"This way," she motioned with her head and turned to lead them back towards her cubicle. Once enroute to the private area, she glanced to them as they walked with her, "What brings you to us today?"

As a dutiful Chiss, Brask'ari'sabosen was accustomed to direct orders so the booming male voice of the desk sergeant didn't faze the young doctor as she and her companion were called back. The blue-skinned near-human rose expediently from her place next to her fellow Chiss, Tora'aro'nuruodo, giving an automated downward tug to her well-fitted uniform tunic as she did smoothing the fabric followed by an adjustment of the medkit that was strapped across her body and rested upon her right hip. Ari followed the blonde human as she indicated for them to do without question to the cubicle down the hall where their recruitment would be processed seemingly together.

"Well ma'am… We are here as part of the Personnel Exchange Program between the Chiss Ascendancy and the Sovereign Galactic Empire. My core name is Karisa, and this is Aaron. I was a medical officer with the CEDF, and he was a fleet officer. We now will serve the Empress and the Empire as if our own," she offered the Lieutenant in smooth Galactic Basic; her Chiss eyes glowing bright red as the words were truth.

Aro was about to answer when Ari stepped in and addressed the blonde human. Aro still did not know what was so attractive about the pale skin of humans. Some Chiss males who had seen human females before commented on the exotic beauty, but he still preferred the natural beauty his intended. The thought was crossing his mind as he adjusted his uniform, crimson eyes noticed as Ari's hips naturally swayed as she walked. That was new. He didn't remember those doing that when they were children. Quickly his eyes darted back to where they belonged hoping she would not notice his accidental slip. He respected her very much.

The blonde went straight to business, and Aro did give his input.

"It is as she states. You will find both our files in order, with high recommendations from both Admiral Damon of the CEDF and Captain Eliza Steele of the Soverign Galactic Empire. Both officers signed off on the exchange."

A short nod indicated he was done.

Very succinct and to the point, she mused as they approached, then entered her cubicle. Continuing around the desk, she motioned to the pair of empty chairs across from her, then sat down herself. "I've only heard a brief on the exchange, but I'm eager to see what you can offer the Empire." Having already stated what areas of expertise and training they had, she knew that the career path would be easy to determine and fill out. As she spoke, Verica called up their files and then once accessed, both hovered over the dark wooden desk to her right.

"I see here you both served for a number of years with distinction," hazel eyes turned back to the pair. "You do know that we're currently at war with the terrorist government known as the New Republic, right?"

Brask'ari'sabosen took the seat to the right, sitting with a straight back, shoulders back, legs together, both hands palms down resting upon her thighs.

"We are aware of the situation and concur with the Sovereign Galactic Empire's position against the New Republic," Ari nodded, then added as a followup to the previous statement made by the Lieutenant.

"I myself have only been serving as a medical officer with the CEDF in the last year. Before that I was on staff at Salvador Medical Center on Sposia as an attending physician and surgeon."

"I have been trained as a tactical bridge officer. I am able to serve anywhere however. Helm, engineering, security, wherever I am needed. We train for war, so this news does not bother us."

Aro was simply proud to be serving during a combat period. His father had spent time encouraging him to be an excellent strategist.

They both had impressive resume's, but also felt a bit programmed to her. She had never met any of their kind before and so far wasn't sure what to make of the pair of Chiss. Hazel eyes studied them as they answered, then glanced back to the files hovering before her. Obviously they were going to do whatever they were told and perform their tasks to the utmost, which was commendable, but also seemed rather empty.

Time to switch gears, she mused and placed her hands top the table, fingers knitted together. "What do you both do as a hobby?" This query would tell her a lot about them.

Brask'ari'sabosen had a hard time reading the human female, but with her last body language perhaps she was a bit frustrated with how stiff and formal they were. Relaxing a bit by clasping her hands together on her lap yet still keeping a formal air about her, the young Chiss doctor answered.

"I am a classical trained keybedist. I find the music is relaxing as well as the repetitive movement of my fingers helps to keep them nibble for surgery. I also enjoy reading historical fiction when not perusing through medical journals," Karisa nodded.

"I play board games," Aro said, seemingly confused by the question.

Hobbies did not seem to have any impact as to whether they should be accepted into the empire or not. Their acheivements spoke for themselves, and Aro was a bit put off they were not being drilled about performance and ability. His face did not show it however. The Chiss male remained stoic.

"My father has always been a great strategist. I will beat him in these games we play someday. They keep me sharp."

Nodding, their answers surprised her a bit as they didn't seem as droid-like as she first thought. One point in their favor she mused. "I've already seen your history and from the little that I've gotten to know you both, I can't see any reason why the empire wouldn't benefit from your service. Where would you like to see your careers in the service of the empress take you?"

Following that query up, she thought of another once they answered the first. "I'm going to assume that you've also heard recently about the empress' declaration of our acceptance of Force users. How do you feel about that?" It wasn't going to take much more from Verica to see that these two were going to outshine many in the uniform.

"I will strive to become Chief Medical Officer with exemplary skill and dedication," Ari nodded, then added almost as an after thought.

"At some point I would like to continue my research into surgical biometrics as with more Force users around, no doubt there will be an increase need for cutting-edge prosthetics," the young Chiss doctor said matter of fact with no pun intended. She really didn't feel one way or the other about the lightsaber jockeys. It was very rare to come across one in the Ascendancy so an informed decision had not been made yet.

"I have no opinion of force users," Aro said bluntly and to the point.

The truth was he had no experience with them, so he had no opinion of them. His father would likely, and Aro should as well, but he did not. There was a strategic advantage if they were willing to serve with the interests of the group, but if they served their own, then the Force Users could be considered a libality. This was how Aro thought, but it did not need to be vocalized in the moment.

"I have always dreamed of commanding my own ship, whether it be with the Empire, or with my own people. I have trained for this very thing from a very young age. I am willing to do whatever is necessary to acheive this objective."

"Many of our troops have been to the medbay and I'm not up on the current technology of prosthetics, but no doubt our bioengineers would be interested in anything new." Not being her forte', she wasn't going to push someone away that may have knowledge in those areas. Many of those she had served in the navy with already had needed a procedure of some type. Everyone in the service of the empress was valuable.

The male then went on about his goal, one that was near and dear to her own heart. "Commanding a vessel in the Imperial Navy has been my greatest joy and I definitely look forward to leading a fleet against the terrorists." She had heard more than enough to convince her, prompting the lieutenant to stand. "Welcome to the Imperial military." Now that they had been accepted, the paperwork and real training would be started in just a few days.
