  • Night On The Town [Open]

Having been given some downtime as the Balmorra was in space dock, undergoing a few repairs, the crew not on duty today had some time to enjoy Bastion's nightlife. Though Verica wasn't really the party type, she was beginning to warm up to the idea. Adorned in a short dress, the Navy lieutenant felt more like a female than normal as her dress uniform appeared more like the very same that the males wore, making her an Imperial officer more than a woman. Though she had never argued, tonight was about her and not anything or anyone else.

Entering the resort and casino, the tall strawberry blonde could already hear the command staff on the ship, if they could see her now. The executive officer from the star destroyer actually did know how to live once in a while, a thought that prompted a grin. Letting her hair down was a long time coming, she mused as the military daughter from Sarrelon continued through the large lobby and into the long hallway that joined the casino and lounge with a club-like scene. Expensive chandeliers hung from the high ceiling and illuminated the richly colored rug and those here for a night out.

Now she just had to figure out which venue to hit first....

Syrenia had just returned from her mission with Dirum and Vallen. She had hoped to see Racheal right away, but her partner was away from Ravelin for some family business. She wasn't privy to much detail, but she still felt worry about it. She knew that work could take them both away from Bastion at times, but she was afraid that Rach would have to leave for a while. She had decided to go out that evening, trying to take her mind off of things. She loved her family but she needed to escape her worries right now.

So she had decided to hit town. Once again she had driven security mad by taking her own speeder and letting them handle things. She was tired of all of this, and she had even had some arguments with her mother about it. By now, they were out of sight and sometimes just left her plainly alone, which was awesome. She understood the whole "princess" thing but it still annoyed her. She was proud of her legacy, but she hated babysitters at her age.

After leaving her vehicle to the vallet, the tall brunette entered the luxurious establishment, trotting around as she reached the casino area. She listened a little to what she heard from the club area, where she'd likely end later on. She really wished that Rach was here, and she mentally scolded herself. She had come here to just have fun and keep her mind off her worries!

She suddenly realized that a nearby blonde looked familiar. She had met her before. It took her a moment to remember, as it had been even before she joined the Army. "Good evening!" She said with a smile since she was right next to her by accident. "Verica, if I recall correctly?"

It didn't take more than a second to recognize the princess who she had met some months prior, but only briefly. Backing she bowed her head to their sovereign's daughter. "Your Highness, good to see you again. Didn't think I would, actually." Noticing a few passers by turn and glance their way, Verica hoped that she hadn't ruined the princess's evening, knowing how fast news traveled. Scanning quickly for an armed escort, there were a few that fit the profile, but as they continued on, she wasn't sure.

"I've just decided to have a night out finally," she motioned to the three openings, finishing off the four directions on the compass from the entrance and lobby. "Just pondering which to hit first."

Syrenia still wasn't used to people addressing her as such. "Please, call me Syrenia." She smiled, her eyes scanning the direct area, but thankfully nobody decided to be a pain and come acknowledge her presence.

"That's great for the night out. Doing the same myself as I just returned from a mission." She grinned when Verica said she was pondering which one to hit first. "Been debating that myself, though might hit the casino first."

Having never imagined that they would be meeting here, being seen out on the town with the princess, regardless of what she wanted to be called, could only get her publicity that she may not necessarily want. But, who could deny a princess? "Sounds good," she grinned and walked into the casino with Syrenia.

Inside, the well lit room was immense and artfully decorated. Tables and machines of chance commanded the center of the room as a bar and lounge took up the outer walls, nearly encircling the gambling center. Having some experience with various games, she wasn't going to be spending a lot here. "Trick is to keep all your winnings and just stick to an amount that you start with. Once you lose that, then I usually walk away, otherwise you end up washing dishes," she chuckled.

Syrenia couldn't get more crazy publicity than when Rach and her had kissed so publicly when reunited a few weeks ago. This had been a whirlwind but she didn't regret it. She just hoped that the woman she loved, who also was her best friend, wouldn't need to go away.

Realizing that Verica talked to her, she listened with interest. "Sounds like you're a pro at this." She mused with a grin. "I definitely am not, but I'm not so interested in washing dishes." She laughed. "Doing that on base or at home is enough." Some might think that she was joking, but she wasn't. Her mother didn't like having tons of servants at home, and she had been raised to do things herself.

            "How have you been doing?"

"My girlfriend's and I used to head to the casino to win some money or meet guys. One of my friends knew how to doctor ident cards, so," she smiled and shrugged. "One of the older gamblers that I think lived there told me all that stuff. He was pretty smart and had won a lot at sabacc." Though she was pretty sure that he spent most of it on a lavish lifestyle and whatever girlfriend he was with at the time. Making those mistakes that made him have to go back to the table again. Not the kind of life she wanted, but being here now was just for fun.

Walking through the main aisle, she noticed a roulette wheel and slowed to watch as Syrenia then asked her another question. "Good," olive eyes turned to the princess again. "Been keeping busy, with the fighting going on and then the new command. Takes a while to get to know all the department heads and the layout of the ship. Those things are massive." Though she was pretty sure Syrenia had been on more than one star destroyer before.

"I've not been to many casinos so far. I like the low key stuff, but felt like hitting town tonight." Syrenia chuckled and was curious as to what she might learn about gambling and such thanks to Verica. "I'm not that good at cards, though my father's been teaching me a couple things." Cronus was technically her stepfather, but to her the "step" part was insignificant.

She looked at the people by the roulette wheel and the wheel itself. She was glad to hear that Verica was doing well. "Yeah, they're massive." She shuddered at the memory of the one exploding, sending her into the hospital for a while. Since then, she'd had other opportunities to be aboard one and get past her trauma.

"I served on the Renkl under Captain Richards' command for a few weeks recently. It was an enriching experience, though I'm glad I chose Army over Navy."

Grinning at the princess, she understood the want to be more independent. "Not sure I'd like the Army or not. Guess I've been spoiled, especially now." Having worked with the marines lately on a remote part of a world to escort Sith wasn't something that she wanted to repeat anytime soon. That was about as close to Army as she ever wanted to get.

"Some games are pure luck," she motioned to the machines that had attracted a number of people. "Just have to watch the ones that have had someone at them for a while. They usually pop once there's too much money inside." Olive eyes glanced to Syrenia, "Just have to be patient, which most people that come here, aren't." She was starting to sound like a career gambler all of a sudden.

"I wanted to serve and do my own thing. I didn't feel like politics being my path, and with my physical skills, the Army made a lot of sense. I've been honored to work with great people so far."

She grinned to what Verica explained of the game. "My, don't you sound like a pro!" She winked and then mused over which machine to try out. "I can be patient, depending on the situation, so that's something I should be able to pull!"

Unsure if Syrenia was Force sensitive or not, she held her peace but just smiled as they walked over to the machines and began scanning for ones that someone had just left. The odds were in their favor, she mused. It took a bit, but eventually she noticed an older woman give up on one in the back row, "Here we go," she called out and moved to the machine immediately before someone else got it, sitting down in front of it before another could. Once the princess arrived, she rose and gave up the seat.

"Give it a shot," she grinned and motioned to the machine whose bright lights and scrolling effects mirrored all the others here.

Truth was that Syrenia was Force sensitive but mostly thought that this was just strong intuition, and only about certain things and situations. She followed Verica at once when they could go to one of the machines.

"Thank you!" She took the seat and tried out the machine. She didn't get lucky at first but at some point, things changed and she grinned though she was careful not to overdo it. After winning a couple of times, she got to her feet. "Your turn, unless you'd like another machine."

Watching as the princess hit the jackpot on several machines, the manager no doubt being a little upset. She could already imagine his discussion with the machine's programmer not going well as Syrenia cashed out on those winnings.

"To be honest, I'm better at other games, these can suck all your money and time if you're not careful. I think you've found the ones that are going to give up their winnings for now, so maybe something else." Guiding the princess over toward the other games of chance, she watched the various players, some at the sabacc tables seemed to be rather good at it. The dice games were usually easier and dealt less with bluffing anyone and she was a terrible salesman. "Like this."

"What can I get ya, ladies," the dealer queried.

"Give me a hundred in chips," Verica placed her credstick into the slot on the table before her and typed in 100, then took the stick back out. Choosing a number, she kept the bulk of her chips knowing that they could go fast. Luck was definitely needed for this game and she lost more than won, eventually cashing out and watching for a bit.

"Never want to roll two ones," she stated, then explained the other options and how the numbers worked, recalling how it was done back home on Sarrelon anyway.

Syrenia knew that this must be luck that she cashed that much, but she still had a good time. It was the fun of these after all. "Sure." She followed Verica towards one of the dice games, happy to just watch at this point.

"I'll keep that in mind. Curious to see how you do at this one."
She replied to the blonde with curiosity. She was starting to find this whole casino thing more interesting than the previous times. Hanging out with someone who knew more about it definitely helped!

Watching as a few high rollers hit several times, then lost just as big, she smiled knowing how that was the way the casino made it's money. Greed. Keeping people like that coming back was how they keep the lights on, she mused and couldn't fault the owners of these establishments. Leaning in toward Syrenia, "What blows me away is, sometimes people will take out a second mortgage in the hopes of hitting it big and usually end up losing everything." Pretty stupid.

"Well, I broke even. We can go get something to eat if you wanted," she glanced at her chronometer and noticed that they had been there for over five hours already. "Didn't realize how long we've been in here."
