  • Welcome To The World of Intel (Magge)

Gods! What a rough time Kiandra had the past few days. Upping sticks and leaving Naboo for Telos was a huge step for a girl whose mind wasn't exactly the most sound. Sure, she is a bright and intelligent young woman, but when taken out of her comfort zone and routine, the young woman showed her anxiety and often found herself becoming stressed. Right now, who could blame her for feeling like she did? It was her first real job, her first spaceflight her first time away from all the comforts she knew and she didn't want to screw things up. That was her greatest fear... screwing things up.

Kiandra's photographic mind had been paying attention, however at the last meeting with the lady that claimed to be called 'Miriam', Kiandra suspected wasn't her real name. Retracing her steps, Kiandra made her way back to the Swoop tracks, which were quiet at that moment in time due to the early hour and lack of races till the afternoon. Looking around, she saw this as a challenge, a challenge to find her workplace. It had to be here somewhere... right?

Treading quietly, the young woman barely made a noise as she honed in on a specific door. It seemed like a door that fit a 'high security' area, with a camera pointed at the door and a compartment of sorts. Pressing on its door, a key card security lock appeared and knowing she didn't have a key card of her own...yet. Kiandra thought it best not to hack the door and instead pressed the 'call' button beside it, waiting patiently for someone to answer.

OOC: Totally forgot about this one, sorry.

    IC:

Strolling through the crowd at the tracks, Ilana's hazel eyes went from gambler to businessman to kid skipping school and wondered how many of them even knew of the other events that took place here, right beneath their nose. She had helped recruit many to their number over the past few years and enjoyed seeing many of them flourish as agents. Some took to the life with fervor, others allowed their careers to bury them in work and research, helping the cause either way.

"We've got someone at the office door near the maintenance entryway," one of the security officers inside mentioned over the com, her ear bud picking up the conversation. "Look like they're lost."

"I"m there, I'll take care of it," Ilana stated, not revealing her name though many already recognized the director's voice. Moving through those near the bookies windows, she passed them and moved into the narrow hallway that conjoined the maintenance office with their own private security station and recognized the new recruit right away. Grinning to herself, she moved to Kiandra. "What're you doing here? Thought you'd be at the Farm by now."

Keeping her voice down, her bodyguards remaining outside the entrance to the hallway, out of sight and kept their eyes open while their charge took care of the issue.

Kiandra jumped a little as a familiar voice came from nowhere. It was the lady who identified herself as 'Miriam'. She was somewhat relieved to see her, but confused when she asked her why she wasn't 'at the farm' already.

"At the farm?" she repeated. She thought about it for a moment before making a tentative reply. "I umm... I wasn't shown where to go..." Kiandra played with her hands nervously, trying her best not to shut down from anxiety. "Perhaps you could guide me to where I'm meant to be? I still don't know Telos very well..."

That was an understatement. It was only her third day on the planet. She was lucky to even remember where this swoop track was.

Feeling bad that no one had taken responsibility for the new recruit, Ilana motioned with her head and slipped her left arm into Kiandra's right and guided her back out of the hallway and turned left, passing her bodyguards who were dressed as normal people here enjoying the races. "We'll deal with the agent that was supposed to sponsor you later, but for now I can take you to the Farm," she stated, trying to keep her voice down, but also wishing for the new agent to hear her over the din of conversation around them. Once out of the track's stadium seating and passed the shops, Ilana continued.

"The Farm is what we call the training compound," the director clarified. "I'm guessing Tal just dropped you off and that was it?"

"Oh...okay." Kiandra said as the woman guided her to 'the farm' before asking whether Tal just dropped her off and left, to which, the nineteen year old shook her head. "Actually no... I made my own way back here." she said, somewhat proud of her feat, though still feeling quite nervous. "I have a...." Kiandra paused for a moment, trying to find the correct words. "...a good memory. I can recall where I've been and if I'm making repairs, I can remember where all the pieces go."

Kiandra looked around her as they walked, taking in everything she was seeing do she didn't need an escort later, but she worried she may have done the wrong thing by coming here by herself. "Did I do the right thing by making my own way back?" she asked tentatively.

"Yeah, nothing wrong with coming to the tracks. Everyone can come here, it's not some secret meeting place, as you can see," those walking around with their children and wives all treating the venue as a favorite hangout and totally oblivious to the NRIS agents in their midst. A perfect cover for recruiting, she thought. Heading through the main avenue dividing shops with items dedicated to the swoop teams and the sport as a whole displayed everywhere, and the large building that housed the audience, Ilana headed toward the parking lot.

"This city is easy to get lost in when you first come here, especially if you're from a small town. It took me a while to learn all the main avenues and landmarks. You'll get it." Confident, the director then moved to the black speeder truck as one of the bodyguards walked up and opened the door for them. Motioning to the rear seats, Ilana let Kiandra get in first, then slid in beside her. Both bodyguards then slipping into the front seats, they were off.

Kiandra grew nervous as other people surrounded them. So much so that vocally, she'd shut down again. Her eyes didn't necessarily show fear, but there was deep concern in her features as they headed toward a black speeder truck. Jumping in the back with 'Miriam' Kiandra continued to look around, constantly analyzing her situation. Her hands were tied together, her shoulders hunched slightly as she tried to figure out where they were going.

It took a while before Kiandra opened up during the journey when she answered the woman's comments about the City being easy to get lost in. "I lived in Kadaara on Naboo. It's a pretty small place. Has a beach which I enjoyed going to. It often calmed my mind when I became anxious." she said tentatively. The high functioning autistic then decided to be a little bolder with her next question. "Is your name really 'Miriam'?" she asked. "I...i-its a nice name an' all but....it doesn't seem to suit you..."

Kiandra wondered if she'd really stuck her foot into something she shouldn't. Her mind was going too fast for her to fully process and she took in a breath to calm herself again. "Sorry... I'm always like this when I'm worried about what's going on..."

Noticing how nervous Kiandra became in the presence of the other two agents, Ilana just enjoyed the ride through the city, knowing that the Farm's front gate was more than a half hour from the tracks. But, that would give them time to get to know one another. The eventual revelations about the new recruit's life back home had already been read, but Ilana enjoyed getting to hear the parts that were left out of the file. People usually liked to fill in quiet moments when they could.

Grinning at the name, Ilana shook her head. "No. Agents learn to take on all kinds of faces when the need arises. At the time I didn't know if you were going to be a part of us or not, so the false identity became necessary to protect myself and those that I work with. Once you're done at the Farm you'll be given an office job working for us, so you won't have to worry about interacting with people and acting. NOC's do that sort of work," she stated, then knew that Kiandra had no idea what that acronym meant. "Field agents."

"Oh.. I see." Kiandra said as 'Miriam' explained that Agents took on all kinds of faces and names. "So... can I get your real name yet or am I stuck with an alias?" Her words were kinda direct. She didn't beat around the bush in that regard. She didn't like being lied to and while she could confront another if she 'smelled a rat' she lacked confidence to do so. Perhaps, in this case, Kiandra needed an olive branch, a gift to help bring a name to the fold.

"Most of my friends call me 'Kia'. You can too if you wish."

"Ilana," she finally offered, though knowing that the slave name would remain hers until she went home with Anana and took care of a ritual that would possibly allow her to reclaim her given name. They had both put that trip off for some time and she understood why her cousin would do so more than herself. Anana still had a lot to atone for, though Ilana had done so and she knew that their ancestors would also. Taking that first step was the hardest part, she knew.

Noticing the passenger glance toward the driver, she knew that he was a bit tentative about having a new recruit know her real name, though Ilana still hadn't yet told her what her job title was and that was just as well for now. "The Farm's going to teach you a host of things that you may need one day. Just because you fly a desk doesn't mean that the enemy isn't going to want to get ahold of you. You see things that most other agents never do. Sensitive information that could jeopardize the lives of agents in the field, so keep that in mind."

Satisfied by the name given, Kiandra listened as Illana told her more about 'The Farm'. It was a most curious name and a part of her wondered why it was called as such.

And then there was the job title. Just what exactly would she be doing? Reading between the lines, Illana had spoken of her seeing things most agents would never see. Sensitive information that would put others in danger if it got out. That was pretty big stuff in itself and even she knew that it meant keeping all she'd seen and heard to herself...not that she would run at the mouth anyway. Kiandra was naturally guarded and wary of others so her habit of shutting down vocally would be quite the asset in certain situations. Right now, curiosity was the mood of the moment as she asked, "So...Is 'The Farm' as you call it like basic training? What will be my role after this training?"

"Exactly," she nodded, making herself comfortable as they drove through the city. "It's where all agents go first to learn tradecraft and how everything works. What you end up doing is up to you. There'll be tests and evals to determine where you'll fit in best. Training takes twelve weeks and then you'll be assigned." Having been through all this herself, it seemed like just yesterday that she entered the ranks of Intel. "One of your trainers is a dear friend of mine, Esme. We knew each other before we came to Telos."

As the road opened up, she eased even more as traffic glided along one of the main highways headed southwest. Cityscape soon giving way to rural areas, hazel eyes enjoyed the scenery for a moment, then turned back to Kia. "What did you do back home?"

Kiandra smiled as Ilana spoke of what she'd be doing at 'The Farm' as well as remeniscing of a friend, Esme. It was nice to have friends you could rely on like that, though a fiercely independent Kiandra didn't have that at the moment, considering she'd just uprooted herself. Back home on Naboo, she had her guardian, Lucille but the redhead never really opened up to anyone else until she met Tal and now Ilana.

Yet when Ilana asked what she did back home, Kiandra bit her lip. Just how honest should she be? Figuring that intel would likely dig up her past anyway, the girl felt it best that any facts should come from her now, rather than later through third parties. "I'm... I suppose the term would be 'A Forgotten One' I sat in the background for the most part, always observing but rarely taking part." Her lips pulled into a small smile that grew as she spoke more about herself. "I love tech! Give me an old, outdated piece of tech and I can upgrade it or cannibalize it for parts to fix something else. Take my holocomm for instance..." Kiandra went into her pack and pulled out her holocomm. It appeared to be an older model, but had been modified extensively. "You saw how I shut down when we first met. I had this modified so it 'speaks' for me at times I cannot using tech that translates thought to speech. Pretty nifty huh?"

Kiandra then paused for a moment as she thought about what to tell Ilana next. "So...umm did Tal mention how and where we first met? she asked, wanting to know what she may have heard from him and whether she needed to add more to what she'd already given,

Admiring the newer com device, Ilana began to wonder if she may not be happier in the R&D department making new gadgets for the agents in the field. Everyone had a place in Intel as the branch needed all sorts of people to support those who put the boots on the ground, crawled through the mud to get information that would save lives. Others would do it with technology.

"That is nice," Ilana studied the object for a long moment, then glanced back up as Kia asked about what she knew about her relationship with Tal. "All he told me was that he had found someone that would fit in well with us and to come talk to you. Why?"

Kia seemed somewhat relieved when Ilana said that Tal hadn't mentioned much about her. It made it easier to be honest with the Director without having the holes to fill. "I wasn't sure how much he shared of me and I'd rather be honest with you on that." she began, taking a breath so she could relax. "Well...Tal and I met at rehab on Naboo. I was a resident there but not a patient. My guardian was a psycologist that ran the facility at Kadaara and as my childhood needs were difficult, my guardian gave me a room of my own there so I had access to the rehab facilities if I required them. I haven't needed them in over a year though and don't require meds to control any crazy stuff so you don't need to worry about that. I just need a little more patience and time than most."

She avoided speaking about her parents but if pressed Kiandra would speak of them. They meant little to her nowadays. What concerned her more was whether she would be accepted by Ilana and the rest of her peers. "Does it bother you if I'm this honest about stuff? I'd rather be honest to you than keep thinngs you need to know in the dark..."
