    Common Grounds (Dara & Open)

Callista blew out a sigh, her body frozen in front of the door of Master Shadowtide’s quarters. Beyond the promotion ceremony in the Council Room, the Sith Knight had not had an engaging conversation of any sorts with her Master. It was about time she did so. After taking note of Kekoa’s connection with Dara, she felt as if she were slipping away. Sure she was now a Knight, able to train Disciples, thus branching away from her own Master, but she wanted to maintain a steady and healthy relationship. Dara had influenced Callista’s life beyond imagination and in no way was she letting her drift out of her activity in the Empire.

Her index finger lingered at the button on the control panel of the door. The button that chimed and alerted the occupant inside of a guest. The quarters were such a personal area, a place of common grounds for the members of the Empire. Would she be intruding on something? She certainly didn’t want to annoy the Sith Master by coming to her quarters…

Perhaps she would wait. Her hand dropped to her side. She stared a moment longer at the door and then turned back the way she had come.

:: As Callista turned to walk back down the hall, a voice touched upon her mind ::

< Greetings, my apprentice. It has been too long since we have had the opportunity to speak on a personal level >

:: The door opened slightly to reveal the shadowed figure of the Sith Master looking out with a smile at Sith Knight Callista. As her apprentice turned back to look upon her Master, Dara ran a quick hand through her hair and straightened her clothing ::

DarkStar glided passed Dara, fiddling with the clasp of his cloak as he went. He looked over at her and smiled.

"I look forward to continuing our sabacc lesson some other time,"

He nodded to Callista, running his hand through his long hair to straighten out a few tangles before retieing it in a pony tail. He moved down the corridor, humming a old Force Vampyre song to himself.

Callista stopped mid-stride as she heard the soft tone of Dara’s voice chime in her head. She turned on a heel and ventured back the few paces to the entrance that her Master now stood in.

She opened her mouth to speak, but the jaw just kept dropping as Lord Darkstar emerged from the room as well. The hair, the clothes...in total disarray. She hadn’t thought twice of Dara’s appearance. Now at a second glance… A dark brow arched, her facial features meshing into something of disbelief. This was definitely news to her.

Her gaze flicked back and forth between the two Sith. Well, well…I’m sure that sabacc lesson went over well… She nodded in return to the Lord, shock still written on her face. Watching him take his leave, she couldn’t help but give a short laugh at the visible skip in his step.

Looking to Dara, Callista quickly wiped her incredulity from her face and just grinned…that was all she could do was grin.

:: The Sith Master's eyes travelled up and down the Sith Lord's physique as he departed, and she spoke quietly back to him ::

    "As do I.."

:: Turning back to look upon Callista, Dara acted as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred and merely returned the smile to her apprentice as their eyes met ::

"It is good to see you once again, my apprentice. I have missed our talks. Would you like to come in?"

Such a look of innocence was not befitting a Sith Master and Callista saw right through it. She didn’t, however say anything more, letting it rest at that. It wasn’t her business and she’d be sure not to pry.

The Knight coolly met Dara’s gaze as DarkStar rounded a corner, disappearing from sight. “It has been some time, Master. I’d love to,” she replied to the inquiry of entering. Dara turned to reemerge into her quarters, Callista following right behind.

:: Dara led Callista inside and gestured to a small seating area off to the side while she went into the kitchen to get herself a glass of white wine ::

"Would you like anything to drink, my apprentice?"

Taking a seat carefully on the offered sofa, Callista glanced back after Dara, watching as she entered the kitchen unit. “Anything cold will do just fine, Master…thank you.” Turning to face forward, she clasped her hands together and rested them in her lap, awaiting Dara’s return quietly. As she did so, her eyes wandered the room, noting all the trinkets that rested decoratively on tables and counters. The room was spacious and inviting, Callista admired how the entire place seemed so elegant…much like its owner. Despite the recent shock, she was glad she had ventured to visit with her Master. It had been a long time coming...

:: Dara returned with two glasses of white wine and handed one to her apprentice. Taking a seat across from Callista, the Sith Master took a long drink of her wine and then spoke quietly as their eyes met ::

"It is good of you to stop by, Callista. Our schedules as of recent have not allowed us time to speak as we once used to and I do miss that opportunity to catch up with you. I must ask though, is there a specific reason for your visit? Something I can assist you with?"

:: Always the watchful master of her many apprentices, Dara was cognizant of their evolving skills and needs, and she always strived to provide assistance to them in any way she could ::

Gingerly cupping the wineglass in her hand, Callista took a small sip, before letting it rest in her lap. “To be honest, I have no specific reasoning as to why I stopped by.” She shrugged slightly, offering a warm smile. “I just thought it time I caught up with you.” Her smile quickly turned sheepish. “I certainly hope I wasn’t intruding on anything…”

:: Dara felt a small smile begin to spread upon her lips as she looked over at her apprentice ::

"Oh no, you weren't intruding on anything that could not be continued another time. I have many meetings with Lord DarkStar and I am confident that he and I will be able to reschedule our.. meeting for another time in the near future."

:: She cleared her throat and supressed a small chuckle before continuing ::

"I am very glad you have stopped by, Callista. I would wager that perhaps you have some new things in your life to share with me.."

:: Her eyes lingered upon Callista's, wondering what new endeavors one of her most loyal apprentice's had undertaken lately ::

“Your wager is right, Master…” and if anyone knew about wagers, it was Callista. The high stake Sith Knight gambled belongings and her own life on a regular basis just as if she were playing a life long game of sabaacc.

She continued, more on a serious note, “Though those new things are most certainly going to be taking a step towards the backburner soon. I feel as if I’ve lost touch here at the Empire…with training, you, the darkside all together.”

Callista brought the glass steadily to her lips and sipped, peering at the bottom of the chair Dara sat in. She wasn’t wanting to make eye contact just yet, not really sure if she was finished spilling her story.

Drifter’s…the smuggling ring…it just all seems as if I’m going in the wrong direction.” This time she did eye Dara, her long time friend and mentor.

    Shrugging she smiled slightly.

"What about you? How are meetin--things going?" She grinned at her 'slipup.'

:: Dara looked into her apprentice's eyes, sensing some inner conflict regarding matters close to her dark heart ::

"It is sometimes easy to lose touch with such a large organization as the Empire. But I am never farther than a comlink message away, my apprentice. Do keep that in mind should you ever need my presence or advice in any matter.. Sith Empire or personal."

:: She paused before continuing ::

"In times where we feel lost in the dark side, we must sometimes renew our initial pledge to the Dark Arts.. perhaps find one thing we want to learn more than anything in the galaxy and then set a goal to achieve that task. A life without goals is a life yet to be lived fully in my opinion."

:: A smile touched upon Dara's lips at Callista's gentle suggestion about her earlier visitor ::

"My meetings are quite.. fulfilling actually. And I do thank you for asking. However, I would like to help you in your situation if I can, my apprentice. Do you have a plan or idea of where you would like to go with your life?"

A nod and then silence befell the room as Callista thought a moment. She knew what she wanted…but getting there would be the hard part.

She whispered at first, “Yes, Master, I do know what I want,” and then spoke louder, more confidently, “to rid myself of all these ties…smuggling ties…and become a greater Sith. I’m so distracted I’ve forgotten what I came here for…” A pause. “Power…I hunger for it every day, thinking that the more money I have the more powerful I will become…but money is only a material value. I want the power of the Darkside, to be able to squash my enemies at anytime…I want to be feared in this galaxy.”

A grin touched her lips as she looked to Dara. “You know what I mean?”

          :: Dara looked into Callista's eyes ::

"Sometimes it is difficult to think about letting go of who we are.. or who we have been in the past. Although in some cases our ties from the past can prove to be invaluable assets at the most unexpected times. Our past shapes us into who we are today, and our future is defined by our choices in the galaxy at this moment."

:: She paused in thought and then continued with a smile ::

"However, seeking power is what we do as Sith. It does require a serious committment to studying the Dark Arts though, my apprentice. Are you prepared to make the necessary sacrifices?"

Callista listened to Dara without a single movement. Each word soaked in, running through her mind over and over again. This woman before her was truly wise much beyond her years. It would do the Lordess well to sit here, talk with her, and get insight.

As the question turned to her, she smiled, desire burning in her eyes. She said but a few words in reply, “Positive, my Master.”

After a brief pause it dawned on her that there had always been a part of the darksides that she had never been exposed to and perhaps this was what Dara had meant by studying the 'Dark Arts'. Callista started, “Master Shadowtide…in this quest for power…will I be taught the gift of Magic or Illusion? These things have always been somewhat of an interest of mine and I’d surely like to add them to my resume.”

:: The Sith Master's gaze remained upon her apprentice as she inquired about the ever mysterious sith magicks and illusions ::

"Indeed you will, my apprentice. No matter what experiences or skills you gain along the way.. there is always more to learn. I look forward to guiding you in this new level."

              :: Dara smiled ::

"Speaking of apprentices, I see that you now have one of your own. How is that progressing?"
