    Poisoned Clockwork

**It happened the 13th of every month since the twins had been born. The younger of the two would simply, blank out. It was as if the constant static in her brain would somehow take control of her. Well, that was what it seemed like. On the outside it appeared that she was oblivious to everything as she now sat in a hallway of the HQ, slumped against the wall. However, in her mind, she was aware of everything. The only problem however, was that she couldn't express everything that was going on in her mind. It was as if, for a day, she was autistic. Though it wasn't as if it bothered her, people tended to leave her alone, even her father.
But, as she sat quietly, humming softly, she could tell that someone was coming down the hallway, and that they were curious as to why a young girl was sitting alone in a hallway, her body reminiscent of an abandoned doll.**

**The person passed by, probably better that way. Takai wasn't sure she would be able to give the usual answer of "I am fine" to them if they were to ask how she was doing....
Then it happened. In a sudden slice of time, it seemed all the mental barriers she kept up had suddenly crumbled and fallen. Not only did other's thoughts come rushing in, but she found she couldn't keep her own thoughts in check, and everything became mixed together in a loud roar in her mind.
The humming suddenly stopped as she tensed up and her knees curled to her chest slightly as her hands went over her ears, mostly an instinctual reaction, not one that would really help the situation.
It was then that she screamed.**

Talus was walking down the corridors of the Imperial Headquarters, when suddenly his ears and mind felt like it would burst. He dropped to his knees trying to fight off whatever it was that was hitting him with wave upon wave of psychic assult.

Forcus, there is nothing, only darkness and oblivion. I am the void, it resides in me, I can not be overwhelmed by things of this plane because I do not exist upon this plane. He recited this mantra in his head allowing himself to become focused on one singularity, the cosmic void. He stood up fighting off the mental anguish that this scream was causing. He followed the sound of the noise and the intensity of the attack. Each step became more difficult as the disciple grew closer to it's origion.

As he rounded the corner he saw the evocator of this wicked spell; Takai what in the hell is happening... The young Sith Disciple was curled in a ball screaming a constant shriek from her lungs, there seemed to be no end. Talus moved quickly, he did not like to strike another member of the Empire unprovoked, but he could not resister her mental assult much longer, drawing on the force her drew his hand back across his body and let his back hand fly across the small girl's face. The screaming stopped and she slumped to her side, blood trickling from her mouth, but her eyes were still open, he hadn't knocked her cold.

"Takai, I am sorry, I couldn't help it you were killing me. What's wrong?" Talus reached down and righted her, awaiting her response.

"Takai, I am sorry, I couldn't help it you were killing me. What's wrong?"

**The words seemed to float away on demon wings before they ever reached her mind. They echoed mindlessly, the message becoming distorted beyond recognition. Only the word "killing" and her name were clear to her.
The screaming in her mind had not left, the urge to shrink away into a corner was great, but her body simply would not complete the action. Instead, she sat there, staring at Talus with blank eyes all the while her lips moved slightly as if she was whispering, yet no noise came from her.
Part of her was screaming to her about the fact that Talus had been able to hit her. If it had been on any other day, it would not have happened. It should not have happened. But it had. But, like the question the older Disciple had asked, these thoughts were whisked away on the winds of the hurricane in her mind.**

Talus saw Takais lips moving and leaned over to try to hear what she was saying, but there was no sound. Grabbing hold of her hand he began talking softly and slowly to her, concetrating his thoughts, he was not yet able to project mental messages as the other Sith could, but he knew that the young disciple was especially good at picking up the thoughts of the Sith.

"Takai, it's Talus. I have ahold of your right hand, I want you to squeeze it, like you are trying to break it. Focus on my hand, send all of your hatred anguish and disgust at my hand. Don't worry about me I'll be fine. Just focus..."

Talus drew the force into himself and projected as much of it as he could into his hand, he would need all his strength to get it back in one piece.

**Touching her hand was like touching one of the dead, her skin slightly cold and her fingers were thin and narrow. Though, her skin always had a slightly bluish tint to it, thanks to the odd color of her race's blood. As Talus prepared for the worst, still nothing happened except that her lips stopped moving and her eyes were currently wandering, yet still as blank as ever, as if nothing was registering.
Slowly however, the barriers were being rebuilt, and rather quickly. The most important ones were already back; keeping her darkest secrets hidden from everyone.
Though, Talus' words still meant nothing more than random words picked out of the dictionary.**

Nothing, no pain, no pressure, nothing... Takai did not squeeze Talus' hand, she just stared into oblivion. The large Sith Disciple had no idea what was going on inside the fellow Disciple's head. In fact he didn't want to know, already nearly crippled by the psionic scream.

"I'm here Takai, if you can hear me. I won't leave your side until you tell me to leave." Talus stood stoiclly beside his incapacitated comrade, he could do nothing for her but stand guard over her small frame.

**There was silence for a few more minutes before her eyes seemed to focus again on the room. The immediate problem was gone, but the slight problem of being able to express oneself properly was still there. The young girl looked down at her hand and slowly withdrew it back into the oversized sleeves of her shirt. She suddenly just didn't want to be looked at, her body didn't seem right to her.
Only vaguely aware of the fact that Talus was there trying to help her, she reached up and touched her cheek where he had hit her, only now feeling the twinge of pain.**

Talus noticed the young girl begin to cover herself up as if she was trying to hide under her clothes.

"Just let me know when you want me to leave and you are alright, friend." Talus said calmly. He was starting to have an affinity towards the young girl. An emotional bond for her well-being was forming in his dark soul.

    "I'll be here until then."

**She shrank back away from him slightly. It suddenly became obvious in her mind that this one was getting too close. Though, she felt practically nothing towards him besides tolerance. Though a few months ago she had made the mistake and had cost for it when the person she had come to trust and enjoy being around suddenly...vanished. She blamed that on her father as well.
She then spoke quietly, slowly, forcing each word to come clear from her jumbled thoughts.**

    "I...am...fine."

"That's good to here Takai, I was beginning to worry about you. Does this happen often my friend?"

Talus knew he shouldn't become attached to this young Sith Disciple, but she felt like his sister, something he never had. He was genuinely concerned about her. Another odd trait for a Sith, compassion and empathy.

"Do you wish me to leave comrade?"

**She rubbed her forehead and avoided the urge to smack the other Sith. He just did not seem to get it. At least she could understand his words fully again, but it would take everything she had to try and answer his questions.
She wanted to be...somewhere. Exactly where though was amiss to her. She did not want to go home, that was for certain. And anywhere else except this remotely empty hallway would probably have just made things worse again.
So, she sighed slightly and started to hum again softly, her gaze lowering to the floor.**

Talus noticed she did not reply and the same song she had hummed in the bar began anew. She seemed to be slipping off again. Talus had thought talking to her trying to keep her focused would help. It was what he had always been told to do, when trying to keep someone concious, but Takai seemed to react adversely to it as if it drained her. So he decided to do something stupid once again. He would grab her hand and see for himself what she wanted.

Why am I doing this? He questioned his motive just before he rolled back one of her sleeves and placed his large hand over hers. If she wanted to him to go or shut the hell up or if she wanted to kill him, he'd know soon enough.

**Instantly she reacted with tugging her hand away from him again quickly and tugging her sleeve over her arm again. She only prayed that he hadn't noticed the large bruise around her wrist. The one that shared the shape of a hand that had grabbed her there the day before. Her secrets were being shown, and she would pay for it. Though, the way she acted, it wasn't hard to tell that someone had been tormenting her. But who was a complete mystery. Maybe it was her uncle, or her brother, or one of the other members, or maybe even an angry spirit...**

Talus remained silent as he stared at the bruise with rage. He knew she was a Sith Disciple and could fend for herself or ask her master for sanctuary, but he still saw the frail child before him and it angered him to no end that someone would take advantage of someone so small. Then he grinned, he remembered the fate of the drunkard at Rama's she could defend herself if she chose fit.

"Your secrets are your own, I will not utter a word to anyone..." Talus stepped away from her to give her space.
